Why You Should Train Barefoot (at least sometimes)

Your feet are the foundation of every movement you make.

And most people have spent their entire lives cushioning, supporting, and essentially weakening them inside thick-soled shoes.

Training barefoot — or in minimal footwear — is one of the simplest ways to start rebuilding that foundation.

Here's what actually happens: when you remove the cushion and arch support, your foot muscles are forced to engage. The small stabilizer muscles in your ankles, arches, and toes wake up and start doing their job.

This has a ripple effect up the kinetic chain.

Better foot stability leads to better ankle mobility. Better ankles lead to better knee tracking. Better knees mean better squat and lunge mechanics.

Your whole movement quality improves — just from the ground up.

You don't need to overhaul your training. Start small.

Do your mobility work barefoot. Walk around your house without shoes more often. Try bodyweight squats and lunges without footwear once or twice a week.

Pay attention to how your feet feel during movement. Are your arches collapsing? Are your toes gripping the floor? That awareness alone is valuable.

Strong feet aren't glamorous. But they're the literal foundation of everything.

Train them accordingly.
